Your iPhone or iPad Generates “White Noise”

What is white noise?

1. an even mixture of sound waves extending over a wide frequency range
2. a constant background noise especially one that drowns out other sounds
There’s even a medical definition:

a heterogeneous mixture of sound waves extending over a wide frequency range that has been used to mask out unwanted noise interfering with sleep

Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary

Gurgling river

Some people sleep much better when they are surrounded by nature. The sounds of ocean waves or a gurgling brook create a relaxing atmosphere where folks easily drift off to sleep. However, most of us do not live in such an environment, and sleep sometimes eludes us. Our iPhones and iPads can create a variety of white noises that simulate the sounds of nature.

Here’s a recording of the background noise of a stream.

Sunset in the African bush

Or, perhaps you would prefer the sounds of the night.

Make sure your sound is turned up on your device to hear the recording.
