Take Interesting and Unique Pictures of Flowers

Gardens are in full bloom right now so it is the perfect time to go for a stroll with your iPhone and capture a variety of flowers in all their glory. These images can be used to create notecards, calendars or just share on social media. Don’t settle for just straight on pictures of your blooms; try one or two of these strategies to take out-of-the-ordinary photos.

* Create an exotic image by shooting at night. Focus on one bloom and activate your flash. The image will almost seem luminescent in its appearance. You might want to turn on the porch light first to make sure there aren’t any black and white critters lurking in your greenery. Here are examples of flowers in the night.

*Simulate dawn’s dew with a water bottle.  If you are not a fan of getting up at the crack of dawn, carry a spray bottle full of water as you take pictures in your garden. Spritz a little water on the petals and leaves and create artificial dew. Your viewer won’t be able to tell the difference if the picture is a close-up of the plant.

* Create a marvelous ambiance with your iPhone by using the portrait option on the camera. Choose the “stage light” setting. The result is a darkened background with a stage light focused on the bloom. It is a lovely and unique image.

*Think about echoing–a repeated sound.  Only with photography, the echo comes about when two identical flowers are lined up, one behind the other. Situate the yellow square over the flower in front which ensures it will be in sharp focus. The flower in back will be slightly blurry. Your image becomes much more interesting than just a single flower. (Remember, you can set the focus by touching the screen–the yellow box will appear.)

*Use an app like Clip2Comic to give your picture a comic strip appearance. Most of these types of apps have a variety of options for different looks. Notice in the images below that there is a range of styles at the bottom to try out.

*Lastly, you may know that you can lift an object out of a photo (iPhone/iPad) and paste it somewhere else. This feature gives you all sorts of options for creating memes for social media or using the images in a craft project. Here are two examples of flowers I lifted out of a larger image.
