iOS 18 Updated iPad Photos App

This is what I am used to seeing when I open my iPad Photos app.

This is what I see after updating to iOS 18.

Haven’t decided whether or not I like this format better than the older one.

Obviously, we all are going to have to play around with this new format in order to use it efficiently and creatively.

Let’s explore some of the changes:

  • Left-hand menu–the options and order have changed:
    • Library is no longer used to describe images available. Photos is now being used.
    • People has become People & Pets
    • Trips has been added.
    • Pinned Collections includes items from your other collections such as Recently Saved, Screenshots, and Favorites.
    • Wallpaper Suggestions have been added. These are quick ideas for backgrounds on your lock screen and home screen generated by the software. Below are the suggestions are for me. Of course, I can use any of my images when I change the wallpaper in settings.
  • Image organization
    • You will see the word “Library” on the  screen when you are scrolling through your collection. Also at the bottom, you will be able to choose Years, Months, or All.
    • Images are arranged chronological by days. Gone is the choice at the top to search by year, month, or day.
    • A Days option is added.
    • Other options are represented on the main Photos screen: People & Pets, Pinned, Memories, Albums, Featured Photos, Trips, Shared, Media Types, Utilities, & Wallpaper Suggestions.
    • You can customize and reorder your collection–at the bottom of the screen you will find a Customize and Reorder button.
    • The Search option looks a little different. Tap the blue Search button and a screen like this will appear.
  • Editing–the icon has changed. Look for three lines with circles–see the image below and look at the red arrow pointing to the icon. The editing tools remain the same as you can see in the third image.

Enjoy getting to know the new Photos!
